Mortice Sash Locks require both a key and a handle to operate the lock. The handle operates the latch element of the sash lock, whilst the key operates the deadlock. These types of lock are often installed on front doors, although they can also be used on internal and other doors.

Most Rim cylinders are for use with surface mounted locks, such as nightlatches, operating from a tailbar. They are used to provide key access from one side of a door and are suitable for doors 38 mm to 57 mm in thickness.
